I would just like to say thanks Jackie for an excellent article. Showing and telling is part of the use of language and we need to use both whether we are writing poetry or prose. Whenever people give out the instruction that we must 'show not tell' in our poetry, and they do it alkl too often, they are falling into the same prescriptive trap that says we must write in a partcular form or adopt a specific structural convention.
It is often appropriate to paint word pictures, but it can also be the right thing to describe. The important thing is to try hard to achieve quality with your work and strive to achieve your objective as hard as you can. There is skill as well as artistic inspiration in creating good poetry. However, everybody should be free to decide the best way to use language in their pursuit of good work.
Thanks again Jackie. Avery well crafted piece.

Certainly a lover of language Jacky, but much too lazy to be a student.
